Random Acts of Kindness September 29, 2007

As I have mentioned before this is my favorite post to write every week, and it just doesn’t get old. Every week I am amazed at the kindness and generosity of people. Anybody that is around my age will remember Jimmy Valvano’s 1993 Speech accepting the Arthur Ashe Award and Announcing the Jimmy V Foundation. Believe or not that speech has come to mean a lot to me recently, I probably watch those 11:00+ at least once a day.

At about the 2:00 Minute mark coach in my opinion spells out what life is all about:

  1. You Should Laugh – Everyone needs to find humor in life
  2. You Should Think – Thought is a good thing, I like his idea think of where you started, where you are, and where you want to go.
  3. You Should have your emotions bring you to tears – Tears of Joy, and I believe Tears of Sadness are equally valuable.

The reason I like writing this so much is without fail it makes me laugh, it makes me think, and it brings me to tears each and every time.

So this week week I am going to try a be brief.

Once again this week a card popped up. And just like before it was load with money. I can’t express enough gratitude for the generosity. The heartfelt words of card, are certainly appreciated. Judy thanks for both the gift and the kind words. Cancer is a humbling diagnosis and heaven knows I eaten my share of humble pie the past couple of weeks, and I know it ain’t my last dose. However these acts of kindness keep me going.

My sister has some amazing friends, and her friend Renee might just be the fourth greatest woman God ever created. For clarity’s sake, 1) The Blessed Virgin, 2) My Mother, 3) My wife. If I’ve ever met Renee it was a quickie at one of Chrissy’s kids functions. But she has a knack of just shooting me a text at the most meaningful time during the week. Renee they make my day.

Thanks everyone for all the support and well wishes. It is very comforting to know you are all out there.

By the way…

Congratulations Mike Haney for last night’s induction into the Crusader Hall of Fame!
